Transport Policy

Safeguarding Clients whilst travelling

Seven Steps Support Ltd will provide transport to clients in staff’s personal vehicles during support hours if required. The independence and inclusion of people are promoted by encouraging and supporting a range of travel options, including independent travel and the use of concessionary travel passes.

Seven Steps Support Ltd ensures all staff members are subject to an enhanced DBS check when recruited for the role of support worker.

Seven Steps Support Ltd ensures all staff using personal vehicles have a full UK driving license and the correct, up-to-date business insurance to carry and transport clients in the vehicle.

All staff at Seven Steps Support Ltd are reimbursed for the cost of any travel expenses they incur whilst supporting a client. This may be fare on public transport (e.g., train or bus) or for mileage in a vehicle. Mileage is charged at £0.45 per mile, and clients have the responsibility to pay all the expenses incurred by the staff member for their own personal monies.

Clients may choose a taxi service or their own vehicle for transportation. In this instance, staff will provide support if required while the client uses their own preferred mode of transport. Clients and families are responsible for arranging the appropriate insurance for staff to use the client’s own vehicle and ensuring it’s in a road-fit condition. In public taxis, the travel company is responsible for insurance, vehicle upkeep, and securing wheelchairs whilst travelling.
