Accessing the Community
Day Trips Protocol
When accessing the community or taking clients on day trips, please ensure the following steps are completed on every occasion to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of all clients.
Planning the Trip
Ensure the day trip is fully planned in advance, including confirming the accessibility of all venues, transportation, toilets, and changing places. Verify that these facilities are operational on the day of the trip.
Tickets
If tickets are required for any attractions, ensure they are purchased in advance and brought with you on the day. When booking day trips requiring transport via trains, ensure that open return tickets are purchased to allow flexibility in case an earlier return is needed.
Public Transport Updates
Stay updated on any changes, delays, cancellations, or disruptions to public transportation services to avoid unexpected inconveniences.
Spare Clothing
Bring a spare change of clothing (underwear and bottoms) in case of accidents or incontinence to ensure clients remain comfortable throughout the outing.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Ensure that the correct PPE, including gloves and aprons, is taken with you on the day.
Travel Passes
Verify that all travel passes are valid and take them with you on the trip.
Food and Drinks
Organize food and drinks in accordance with clients’ dietary requirements. Ensure a packed lunch is prepared, or funds are available to purchase food during the outing.
Medication
Bring all necessary medications in clearly labelled boxes, ensuring they are stored securely. Medication Administration Records (MARs) must also be taken.
Emergency Funds
Have enough money available in case of emergencies. This could include the need to purchase alternative transport tickets due to ill health or incontinence, spare clothing, or replacement food and drinks if necessary. If funds are unavailable, contact management or the Out of Hours service to seek financial support.
