Short Breaks Admissions Policy

At Seven Steps Short Breaks, we are committed to providing effective and quality provision to adult clients and their families in need of appropriate respite. Our short break Service is open all year round, and can accept emergency admissions in addition to reserved bookings.

All of our short break clients must be 18 and over, and must have primary need of a learning disability, Autism, dual diagnosis, or complex health needs. All short break referrals will receive a full assessment of needs to ensure they can be appropriately provided for within our service.

Emergency referrals can be made dependent on client’s needs, and if we are able to effectively meet their needs, wishes, and preferences.

Referrals can be made by G.P, health care practitioners, local authority social work team, care managers, clinical nurse, district nurse, and clients and their family members. The client must give consent for the referral, or when this is not possible, admissions must be considered to be in their best interest.

Our management team will work with the client, their family, and their referring team to ensure a smooth and successful transition into our short breaks service. We understand that not every referral can be planned and that some people with a Learning disability, Autism, or Dual diagnosis may present in a state of crisis requiring urgent admission to a place of safety. In these circumstances, we will aim to provide a rapid, accessible, and responsive service.

Our management and staff team work holistically with each client, their families, and any care professionals involved in their care to create a proactive care and support plan that meets their unique and individual needs while enabling them to develop daily living skills and competencies, social awareness, and anxiety-reducing skills.

On arrival at Seven Steps Short breaks, the client will be greeted by a manager or a member of our staff team. The client will be shown around the property if they haven’t been before to familiarize themselves with the building, bedrooms, and toilet. The client will be shown where all the fire exits are and given advice and information on what to do in an emergency. The client will receive a client brochure and have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. One of our staff members will help them unpack while documenting their belongings on one of our inventory log sheets to ensure all belongings are safe and packed on leaving.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will follow all government guidance and legislation regarding visitors within our short breaks home. We have visiting protocols and infection control measures in place to ensure the safety of our clients, staff, and visitors.

Seven Steps Short Breaks wish all clients a person-centered service delivery during their stay.
